We’re looking for a Staff Accountant to support our Finance & Accounting department reporting directly to the Controller. The work this person will be responsible for is vital to supporting our company in our next phase of fast-paced growth.

This role requires a solid understanding of key technical financial accounting concepts. We’re looking for someone who is able to effectively communicate and collaborate with others, is a knowledgeable self-starter, and is able to take ownership and is passionate about finding the most efficient way to execute on priorities.

At data.world, you will:

  • Handle day-to-day bookkeeping to month end close and financial statement preparation.
  • Manage all essential accounting functions such as the Order to Cash and Procure to Pay processes.
  • Maintain and update accounting records and files, analyze budgets and create reports.
  • Prepare journal entries, reconciliations, during month-end close.
  • Maintain documentation (narratives, flow charts) surrounding our current business processes and controls.
  • Examine tax policies and handle tax payments and returns, as we go through the annual financial statement audit and relevant tax filings.
  • Post transactions, categorize records and reconcile bank statements.
  • Collaborate with Legal & HR on areas requiring coordination around employment taxes, state taxes, and areas where we have state nexus
  • Ad-hoc financial analysis and reports

We’d love to see:

  • 5+ years of experience in accounting, finance, or related consulting fields
  • Public account experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
  • Experience with Airbase & QuickBooks.
  • Comfort working on Mac with both G Suite and Microsoft Suite, with particularly strong skills in Excel worksheets
  • International experience
  • Strong attention to detail, organizational and communication skills.
  • Strong ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Thorough understanding and application of GAAP financial statements and reporting
  • Strong interpersonal skills and experience interfacing effectively with cross functional roles internally and externally from the company
  • Good communication and presentation skills with the ability to explain concepts in a clear, concise, and compelling way up to the board level
  • An appetite to try new things -- you’re curious and excited to improve your process, and always looking to learn

Big pluses include:

  • Experience with SaaS businesses
  • Exposure to ASC 606
