The Job

Tango is looking for a DevOps Engineer to help us as we deliver on our mission: to make rewards easy to send and awesome to receive. Your work will impact thousands of businesses and rewards millions of people every month.

This Senior DevOps Engineer will be part of a growing and focused engineering team. In this role, you will utilize the latest technologies to scale our engineering efforts both in infrastructure and automation.

Our DevOps Engineers are expected to be subject matter experts, provide assistance to developers and support staff, introduce new solutions to the team, and lead projects that will shape Tango’s future.

Reports To: DevOps Manager

As Senior DevOps Engineer at Tango, you will:

  • Develop new tools and automation to handle processes and projects small and large.
  • Build, configure, scale, and maintain our infrastructure platform.
  • Troubleshoot issues, and extend our monitoring and trending systems to identify issues before they become real problems.
  • Evaluate and recommend libraries, tools, and vendors from the market, in collaboration with other stakeholders, to meet the needs of the department and business.
  • Actively assess technology, approaches, and trends that contribute to innovating Tango’s products and services.
  • Deliver secure, performant, scalable, resilient, observable, cloud-based systems to stakeholders in an iterative methodology.
  • Act as a mentor and subject matter expert to expand the skills of the engineering groups with a focus on consistency and alignment with Tango practices.
  • Lead as a Senior expert on the team; leading design and documentation efforts, supporting interpersonal collaboration, setting and executing on strategic goals, and translating goals into action items and projects.
  • Integrate with internal and external services, tools, and vendors to provide functionality reliably and securely.
  • Contribute to a collaborative culture within and outside of Engineering to foster transparency, rapport, and support.
  • Participate in On-Call rotation, including responding to incidents, outages, and offering support.

To be effective in our Senior DevOps Engineer role, you must have:

  • BS degree in Computer Science or related field and 5+ years of experience (OR 8+ years equivalent experience in a technical position)
  • Expert knowledge of AWS Cloud Infrastructure (EC2, ECS, RDS, ELB)
  • Advanced programming/scripting skills, Python preferred, Javascript a bonus
  • Extensive professional experience with Kubernetes and Docker
  • Substantial experience with Ansible
  • Experience in Terraform (or related Infrastructure as Code tooling)
  • Linux Command Line Skills
  • Experience with production-level multi-region architectures
  • Expertise with observability and logging metric tools and platforms (Splunk/SumoLogic/Coralogix/Datadog/Open Telemetry)
  • Experience with setting up CI/CD pipelines and associated infrastructure
  • Ability to explain complex systems and technological trade-offs to a non-technical audience
  • Ability to consult on designs of others in areas of your domain expertise

Our ideal Senior DevOps Engineer at Tango will have most of the following skills and experience:

  • 8+ years of experience and a BA/BS degree in Computer Science or related fields
  • Experience in PCI, HIPAA, SOC2, or other regulated field
  • 6+ years experience working in an Agile environment
  • Substantial knowledge of Ubuntu Linux
  • Experience with Relational Databases (Postgres) or NoSQL (MongoDB/DynamoDB)
  • Experience writing automation tools and orchestration flows
  • Experience with GitOps and Gitlab
  • Hands-on experience with Ansible AWX or similar orchestration platforms

Salary: The targeted pay range for this position is between $120,000 to $206,000. Please note that the actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, location, and experience. Certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonus.
