Blackhawk is seeking passionate backend engineers at all levels to build our next generation of payment systems on a public cloud infrastructure. You will build different parts of our payment network, that have high scale, precision and availability requirements. • Design, develop, test, deploy, maintain, & enhance large scale software solutions. Must be able to understand the positioning of a solution within the company & to build consensus to effectively gain buy-in from all participants.

• Defines a complete technical solution for a well-defined business problem which aligns to a platform vision. Write clean, reusable code that’s easier to read and test.

• Strategic communication with senior business stakeholders, external technical partners, and industry engineering leaders on technical strategy and architectural roadmap direction. Influences organizational technical priorities and strategic decisions through engineering expertise and thought leadership.
• Drives transformational technical initiatives that impact multiple product lines and business units with autonomous technical decision-making authority. Takes ownership of technical competitive positioning and engineering expansion strategies while leading cross-functional technical transformation efforts.
• Drives breakthrough technical innovations that establish new engineering opportunities and competitive advantages through strategic technology adoption and software architecture transformation. Champions breakthrough approaches to payment system development and drives adoption of new technologies across engineering organization.
• Makes enterprise-level technical decisions that balance complex technical, business, architectural, and competitive factors across multiple product areas. Uses advanced engineering analytical frameworks to evaluate strategic technical options and drive organizational success with measurable engineering impact.

• Mentor/Coach other members on the same team to be more effective

• Lead complex projects that span multiple teams from launch to release in a fast-paced agile environment.

Required:

• 8+ yrs experience in software development. Experienced in architecture design & development of large-scale platforms & application with simple solutions. Deep knowledge in multiple programming languages (e.g., Java, JavaScript, Python, C, C++, AWS, etc.).
• Solid programming experience building distributed systems using java technologies.
• Designing high performing APIs with less than 50ms Service Level Agreement (SLA) using Java, Spring, Spring Boot, and relational database.

• 2+ years of technical leadership experience – proven expertise in building large scale platforms/products using a modern technology stack
• Strong computational skills, fluent in data structures, algorithms and design patterns.
• Solid understanding of relational and non-relational databases (My SQL, NoSQL, Mongo DB)
• Strong knowledge of computing concepts such as service-oriented architecture, REST services, fault tolerance, self-healing, network protocols, network programming, multi-threaded programming, performance, reliability, scalability, and security(OWASP).
• Ability to differentiate good and bad, design and coding practices.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong in self-direction, problem solving and critical thinking.
• Deep passion for providing high quality customer experiences.
• Familiarity with the whole web stack, including protocols and web server optimization techniques

Preferred:

• Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS) including RDS and EC2.
• Experience with container-based application development using Docker/Kubernetes.
• 2+ years of technology leadership experience in a modern / complex payment environment.
